Baba’s Perogies is an independent perogies maker based in Burnaby. I was lucky enough to receive a sample of their homemade onion perogies, one of many other homemade varieties you can order from them.
I am so terrible at making perogies, I usually just boil them and eat them as they are. Luckily, I had a friend making these with me, and he taught me the fancy (or normal) way of making them.
We first boiled the frozen perogies for about 5 minutes, then pan fried them until they are crispy on the outside. One trick my friend did was to put a slice of white cheddar cheese on top of each dumpling, and let it melt on the perogies which made them super cheesy and crispy.
Homemade perogies does make a difference. Compared to store bought, the fillings were more flavourful, and the dough had more chew. They certainly did taste fresher and better.
If you are in Vancouver area, you should definitely put it an order and give them a try. I know I certainly will.
